Investigation Discovery: Inside the ‘Word of Life’ Cult (VIDEO)

'Word of Life' Cult To Air Tonight on ID Network

Word of Life Christian Church

As we told you earlier, Investigation Discovery & People Magazine Investigates: Cults has proven to be quite intriguing. Tonight the latest episode will air and focus on a group called ‘Word of Life.’

You may recognize the name after the upstate New York group made headlines back in late 2015 after authorities detained nine members of the sect for beating a teenager to death and then giving his brother a beating himself. The beatings itself took place over a brutal twelve-hour period.

Consistent with cult behavior, the parents of the boys refused to cooperate or aid authorities despite what happened to their sons.

People Magazine’s Chris Harris investigated the situation and here’s a glimpse of a his take on ‘Word of Life.’

A bit more from Chris here:

In October 2015, the Word of Life Christian Church — a small, reclusive religious sect in Chadwicks, New York — was thrust into the national spotlight after police arrested nine congregants for their roles in the hours-long beatings of two teenage brothers, killing one of them.

Lucas Leonard, 19, bled to death on a hospital gurney after being punched, kicked and whipped over 12 hours on Oct 11. 2015.

His younger brother, then-17-year-old Christopher, survived the ordeal but is still recovering from his injuries nearly three years later.

Among those taken into custody in the attack were the boys’ parents, Bruce and Deborah Leonard.

Lucas’ killing and the church that made it possible will be featured on Monday night’s episode of People Magazine Investigates: Cults, airing on Investigation Discovery and exclusively previewed above.

And we are certainly looking forward to it. Tonight’s episode airs at 9 p.m. ET on Investigation Discovery.
